Established to Save You Money We founded Affordable Window Solutions in 1996 with a simple idea -- to make window replacement affordable for the home owners of the Puget Sound area. For the previous 9 years I sold replacement windows for several other companies including Sears, Statewide Vinyl, DSK, and Factory Direct. I was always appalled and frankly discouraged at the amount of markup I was directed to add to each job by these companies. I knew that the windows we were selling did not cost that much, and that the labor to install them was not that expensive, yet I was being asked to mark up jobs 400 to 500 percent. Then it occurred to me, the people that were buying these windows, were paying for all of the marketing it took to get me in front of that one prospect. This accounted for the huge markups. Purchasing radio, TV and print ads was very expensive, including home shows and direct mail advertising added to the enormous marketing budgets of these companies.
Now don’t get me wrong, replacing old single pane and double pane aluminum windows in your home with energy efficient vinyl and wood windows and doors is the single best home improvement you can make. Not only will you immediately add value to your home, reduce your heating and air conditioning costs, but you will also totally transform the way your home looks inside and out. One of the first things our customers always comment on is how quiet it is inside their home after the job is complete, even if they live on a busy road. So investing in new windows is prudent, however paying for the cost of advertising for these large window distributing companies is not. My idea was to find a way to market to potential customers, sell a high quality replacement window or door, with expert installation, at a third of what the big companies were charging. Plus, I wanted to do this without the nonsense and high pressure sales pitch, trying to close the deal that night (The salesman knows that his prices are so high that if he doesn’t make the deal that night the customer will get a chance to do some cost comparisons). Well a little innovation called the Internet allowed my dream to come true. Now we can reach out to potential customers at a fraction of the cost to market, and use this cost savings to be able to pass on savings to the customer. Of course other window companies have access to the Internet as well, so how do we continue to beat nearly all of our competitors by 20%, 30% even 40%? It’s called low overhead -- we are a small company and we like it that way! We work out of a small home office on Bainbridge Island, and use only web based marketing programs to prompt our business. Of course customer referrals also account for the success of promoting our business! We also do not have any inventory. All the windows we sell are custom built by business partners with your precise measurements for each window. We only handle two to three jobs a week, allowing us to give our customers the time and care to provide an expert job, which results in referrals. We have preferred relationships with several carefully selected manufacturers, allowing us to offer you a wide selection of options with no compromise in quality. These relationships make our wholesale rate the lowest in the area, again allowing us to pass on our savings on to our customers. Our manufacturers like that we are a small company specializing in high quality windows and doors. High quality allows us to cover our windows and doors with the best warranty in the industry. Our warranty covers your windows and doors for any and all problems for as long as you own your home, plus we will transfer that warranty to the new owner for a full five years. The warranty covers seal failures, screens, frames, insulation etc., and usually we having the problem resolved the same week that you call.
